Upcoming Releases – March 2023

From new trading card sets to film releases, here's what we can all look forward to in March of 2023!

Spring is just around the corner, and Certified Guaranty Company® (CGC®) is looking forward to the rest of what 2023 has to offer! March promises to be a great month for new collectibles and media across all platforms, including film, television and trading cards. Here’s what we have to look forward to during the third month of the year.

Star Wars: The Mandalorian Season 3

March 1

The Mandalorian has become one of the most popular TV series in recent years, and fans have been eagerly awaiting the continuation of Din Djarin and Grogu’s journey. They won’t have to wait long — Season 3 is set to release on Disney+ on March 1.

Season 3’s synopsis alludes to the Mandalorian’s future, in which Djarin is set to “cross paths with old allies and make new enemies” while he travels with Grogu. Disney’s promotional posters and advertising material confirm that starring characters will return to the series, including the Mandalorian warrior Bo-Katan Kryze and Greef Karga, the leader of the Bounty Hunter’s Guild.

Shazam! Fury of the Gods

March 17

Billy Batson and the Shazam Family return in this sequel to 2019’s Shazam!.

In the first movie, 14-year-old Billy Batson discovers the Rock of Eternity and the wizard that guards it. The wizard gives Billy superpowers; by saying the word “Shazam,” Billy is able to transform into an adult superhero who can wield powers such as flight, superhuman strength, the ability to manipulate electricity and semi-invulnerability. Through the events of the first movie, Billy is also able to transfer his powers to his foster siblings, who together become the Shazam Family.

After Batson and his foster siblings defeat Thaddeus Sivana and the Seven Deadly Sins, they’re hailed as heroes and return to a semi-normal life. This is short-lived because the Daughters of Atlas — a group of villains entirely new to the DC Universe (though Atlas himself debuted in 1948's Action Comics #121) — set their sights on New York, and it’s up to the young superheroes to put them in their place!

Shazam! Fury of the Gods comes to theaters on March 17.

Pokémon Trading Card Game: Scarlet and Violet Base Set

March 31

The latest generation of Pokémon comes to the International Pokémon TCG on March 31!

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet Base Set introduces Pokémon TCG players to the Paldea region for the first time, outside of the Paldea Collection promo cards. Besides Sprigatito, Fuecoco and Quaxly, Scarlet and Violet’s Base Set will focus on Koraidon ex and Miraidon ex.

The set also includes major changes to the international Pokémon TCG release, including the following:

  • Yellow card borders are now silver to match the cards released in Japan
  • Booster packs will now include three guaranteed holofoil cards instead of two
  • All cards with a Rare rarity will be holofoil in booster packs
  • Subcategories, such as the “Trainer” subcategory and “Energy” subcategory, will include their own symbols on the card for a seamless play experience
  • Pokémon Tool cards will now be considered a subcategory of Trainer cards, similar to Item cards, Supporter cards and Stadium cards

Scarlet and Violet’s Base Set also features the return of ex cards, which haven’t been seen in a main TCG set since 2016’s XY Evolutions.
