Upcoming Releases: June 2023

The film and video game industries are vying for our attention here at Certified Collectibles Group® (CGC®) this June! There are dozens of new releases coming out in every division, including video games, comics, trading cards and home video. We’re here to tell you all about them, so read on to learn what you can look forward to as summer begins.

Upcoming Comic Releases

Flash #800 – June 6

The final issue of Jeremy Adams and Fernando Pasarin’s Flash run is coming soon, but it isn’t the end for the superhero and his friends.

In 2016, writer Jeremy Adams and artist Fernando Pasarin became the new writers for The Flash and took on the intense project of reintroducing one of DC’s legacy characters. Unlike other representations, Adams and Pasarin’s run of The Flash focuses on building Wally West and his family more than his superhero identity — and fans have been loving it.

Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end. After seven years at the helm, Adams and Pasarin will be stepping down as The Flash’s creative team. DC will reboot the series with The Flash #1 as part of their “Dawn of DC” initiative, and will introduce a new creative team along with it.

To celebrate Wally West’s legacy, the last issue of Adams and Pasarin’s run — The Flash #800 — will conclude the adventures of the “Fastest Man Alive” with an oversized issue full of stories featuring the West family, including untold stories, climactic finales and arc wrap-ups. Adams and Pasarin are joined by classic Flash writers Mark Waid, Geoff Johns and Joshua Williamson, along with artists Oclair Albert, Todd Nauck, Carmine Di Giandomenico, Scott Kolins and Mike Deodato Jr. for the ultimate sendoff. The issue will also include a prelude to The Flash #1, the first issue of the relaunch featuring the new creative team of Simon Spurrier and Mike Deodato Jr.

Look for The Flash #800 at your local comic book shop starting June 6, 2023.

Upcoming Film Releases

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse — June 2, 2023

Miles Morales’ journey continues in this upcoming sequel to 2018’s “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse”!

A year after the events of “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse,” Gwen Stacy approaches Miles with a premonition: A supervillain known as the Spot is threatening every universe of Spider-People, and they need to help stop him. Miles, eager for adventure, accepts the challenge and travels with Gwen through the Multiverse, where they meet the Spider-Society led by Miguel O’Hara. Unfortunately, everyone has a different plan on how to defeat the Spot, and Miles doesn’t agree with Miguel’s. Will they be able to settle their differences to defeat a common threat?

Shameik Moore and Hailee Steinfeld reprise their roles as Miles Morales and Gwen Stacy, respectively. This sequel has been highly anticipated by fans ever since “Into the Spider-Verse” was released in theaters in 2018, and it’s looking to be a huge hit just like its predecessor.

Swing into the Multiverse with Miles when Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse arrives in theaters on June 2, 2023.

Final Fantasy XVI — June 22, 2023

The critically acclaimed Final Fantasy series introduces its next installment with an interesting twist!

Final Fantasy XVI takes place in the world of Valisthea, a realm split between six nations who each control their own Mothercrystal — a magical crystal of light that offers aether to its nation’s inhabitants. For eons, people have flocked to the Mothercrystals to obtain aether and use it for magical purposes to make their lives easier. Meanwhile, each kingdom houses a Dominant — a single individual that can use magic without the Mothercrystal and summon an Eikon, a magical beast that rules over an element.

Clive Rosfield, firstborn son of the Grand Duchy of Rosaria’s ruler, is shocked when he learns that his younger brother, Joshua, has become the Dominant of Phoenix and surpassed him as successor of the throne. Joshua laments this turn of events and shares Phoenix’s powers with Clive, allowing him to serve as his personal shield. However, an invasion of the kingdom ends in tragedy, and the dark Eikon Ifrit emerges, leading Clive to embark on a quest for revenge…

Final Fantasy XVI emerges as a timed exclusive for PlayStation 5 on June 22, 2023.

Scarlet & Violet: Paldea Evolved & Pokémon TCG Live

The second set in the Scarlet & Violet TCG era is almost here!

Paldea Evolved adds a host of Tera Pokémon ex, including Forretress, Slowking, Dedenne and Pikachu, while also introducing more Paldean Pokémon and other fan-favorites from past generations.

Don’t forget to save your code cards as you open packs from Paldea Evolved! The Pokémon TCG Live mobile game is finally exiting its global beta phase and fully releasing alongside Paldea Evolved. Fans who download the game will be able to play with digital cards they receive from in-game rewards or by inserting code cards. The app supports online battles and a competitive system.
