CGC-certified Metroid and Super Mario Kart Race to Lead Upcoming Heritage Sale

The two sought-after video games certified by CGC are both sealed and high grade.

Two highly desirable video games certified by CGC — a Metroid pedigreed to the Waterford Collection and a Super Mario Kart for the SNES — are getting noticed in an upcoming Heritage sale. They are just a few of the dozens of CGC-certified video games being offered in Heritage’s Video Games Signature Auction, which is set to open on August 4, 2025, and conclude on August 22-23, 2025.

The sealed Metroid for the Nintendo Entertainment System (1987) graded CGC 9.4 A+ and pedigreed to the Waterford Collection is the highest-graded mid-production variant of Metroid to ever be offered on Heritage’s auction platform, as of July 2025. Metroid is celebrated as one of the first games to challenge gender expectations in gaming, as Samus Aran — the main character, who spends most of the game clad in a full body suit of armor — is revealed to be a woman at the end of the campaign. The revelation stunned players across the globe, and the twist is still referenced and celebrated decades later.

Additionally, a sealed Super Mario Kart for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (1992) graded CGC 9.8 A is turning heads in the sale. Like Metroid, this is the highest-graded Super Mario Kart that is not a Player’s Choice release to be offered by Heritage Auctions. Mario Kart is one of Nintendo’s best-selling franchises, having sold more than 170 million copies across all of the series’ entries.

Other CGC-certified video games in the sale include:

  • a 100% complete-in-box Super Mario Bros. 3 for the Nintendo Entertainment System (1990) graded CGC 9.8 with CIB grades of 9.4 for Box, 9.8 for Cart and 9.8 for Manual
