Heritage Auctions Offers Modern Games Graded by CGC Video Games

Among the CGC-certified highlights are two classic Pokémon games and a sealed Super Smash Bros. Melee.

Dozens of modern video games certified by CGC Video Games™ are being offered in an upcoming Heritage Auctions sale, including two sealed Pokémon games and a sealed Super Smash Bros. Melee. Online bidding for Heritage’s Sixth Generation and Beyond Video Games Showcase Auction is already underway and is set to end on July 6, 2023.

A sealed Pokémon Sapphire Version for the Game Boy Advance (2003) graded CGC 9.4 A+ (lot 80016) is among the leading CGC-certified games in the sale. Pokémon Sapphire introduced players to Generation III of the Pokémon series and was intended as a soft reboot to take the series in a new direction after Pokémon Gold and Silver. Sapphire introduced a full roster of new Pokémon and brand-new game mechanics, such as double battles, Pokémon contests and Pokémon abilities. Together with its counterpart, Pokémon Ruby Version, Pokémon Sapphire became one of the best-selling games for the Game Boy Advance.

Three years after the release of Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire, Nintendo and The Pokémon Company released a third Generation III Pokémon title. Pokémon Emerald Version took players through the Hoenn region once more, this time with improved battle mechanics, modified Pokémon encounter locations and changes to the storyline that focuses on Rayquaza instead of either Groudon or Kyogre. The sealed Pokémon Emerald Version for the Game Boy Advance (2005) earned an impressive grade of CGC 8.5 A+ (lot 80012).

Also featured in the sale is a sealed Super Smash Bros. Melee for the Nintendo GameCube (2001) graded CGC 9.4 A (lot 80045). The second installment in the coveted Smash Bros. series, Super Smash Bros. Melee was the best-selling game for the GameCube, selling over 7.41 million units. The title was immensely popular upon release and is still used in eSports competitions today.

  • a sealed Star Wars: Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy for the Microsoft Xbox (2003) graded CGC 9.8 A+ (lot 80167)
  • a sealed Pokémon Pinball: Ruby & Sapphire for the Nintendo Game Boy Advance (2003) graded CGC 9.6 A+ (lot 80015)
  • a sealed Luigi’s Mansion for the Nintendo GameCube (2001) graded CGC 9.6 A+ (lot 80031)
  • a sealed The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds for the Nintendo 3DS (2013) graded CGC 9.6 A++ (lot 80059)
